Pin Beater
This object, made of antler, is a pin beater. It was found in the well and is about 12cm (6 inches) long.
Pin beaters were used in weaving to push down the weft threads on the vertical loom and to do any unpicking that might be required. It is more usual to find them broken. This is a particularly long and slender example which suggests that it was used in the production of fine linen cloth.
A number of pieces of broken loom weight have been found during the 2026 dig to go with those discovered in 2023. Clearly, weaving was taking place at the monastery.
