We’ve found a selection of glass fragments during the 2026 dig, mostly from the well.

As shown in the photograph, a lot of them have yellow decoration. The yellow would have been added after the vessel was made in a process akin to enamelling. While the glass looks black, it is in fact a greenish-brown as can be seen when it is held up against the light (below).
 
All these pieces probably came from drinking vessels. Three are parts of the vessels’ rims which should allow an expert to tell us the size and shape of each.
 
In the meantime, we can say that, like most of the finds at Cookham, their quality reflects the very high social status of the Abbey’s inhabitants.
