The picture above shows the full extent of the leat and probable wheel slot (see previous posting for more).
You can now see clearly the dark timber revetments at the bottom of the leat and the posts which held them in place.
The vertical timber which is surrounded by the water and bags in the picture below is a pile (a post that has a pointed end which is driven into the ground) which is ready to be lifted, see “Pile from the Leat” for more information.
At the very far end of the leat (in fact, fill in an unexcavated part of the leat) are two holes – these are old rabbit burrows!
