Exhibition : River & Earth – Contemporary Art Meets Ancient Ground

A unique exhibition bringing together the work of six professional artists – Phyllida Shelley, Alice Hume, Sarah Lambert Gates, Kirsty Brooks, Jane Glennie, and Caroline Lamb – who have responded creatively to the ongoing archaeological excavation of Cookham Abbey, an early Anglo-Saxon monastic site.

Each artist brings a different perspective and practice, exploring themes such as history, memory, landscape, and material through contemporary art.

The free exhibition features work made using a wide range of materials and techniques—both traditional and modern—including glass, wool, clay, digital film, lyrics and sound. It is free to visit and open to all, in the beautiful setting of Holy Trinity church near the Abbey site—step inside and discover how today’s artists connect with the past beneath our feet.

Exhibition dates:
Sat 13th Sept – 11am – 4pm
Sun 14th Sept – 2pm – 4pm

FREE Entry – No Booking Required!
