Tours Round Up

During the 2026 dig, the community engagement team welcomed over 830 visitors to the Cookham Abbey excavations.

This does not include the 170 school school children who came on tours in the first week nor the many visitors who were shown round by students. Our public tours were sold out for the last two weeks of the dig.

Everyone who completed our visitor survey enjoyed their visit with 99% saying they learnt something new! Return visitors enjoyed finding out about the progression of the excavations from previous years.

The overwhelmingly positive feedback highlighted the enthusiasm of our tour leaders and the support provided by the team, especially in the hot weather. Our experiment with a “whisper” system which meant everyone could hear the tour leader was also much appreciated.

We look forward to seeing everyone again in 2027.
