The final week of the 2025 dig saw a huge amount of community engagement activity.
These included a BBC Radio Berkshire Outside Broadcast, visits from Thames Hospice, Brighter Futures neurodivergent group and the Oasis Partnership, and a Mindfulness Art Workshop.
Perhaps the most poignant and significant moment of the week was the blessing of the site by Father Stephen on Saturday 9th.
A fun quiz was run to promote the High Street businesses who are such an important part of our community.
Finally, the tours have been a big success as in prior years, with many sold out. Participants in the tours donated over £3,300 to the Friends of Cookham Abbey. The money will be put towards post-excavation analysis and community engagement activities. Thank you to those who donated!
Lastly, we are saying goodbye to our Community Engagement Manager, Sarah Parfitt, following a really brilliant period working with Friends of Cookham Abbey to bring our story to a far wider, and more engaged audience. We will stay in touch!
