Our first week’s community engagement focused on school visits.

In total, eight schools and home-schooling groups  from Cookham, Marlow, High Wycombe and Wokingham attended and we welcomed  over 260 children, teachers and parents to the site. Additionally, the Chiltern Young Archaeologist club visited on Saturday amid some thunderous weather.

The week’s activities have included a runes scavenger hunt,  a tour of the site and watching archaeologists at work, meeting our artist in residence, and a performance of the book “The Cookham Chronicles, Wild Ice Child” with musical accompaniment featuring Saxon instruments and folk song relating to the Thames and the Saxon period. The children and the Friends of Cookham Abbey Outreach team had a terrific time celebrating our heritage in this way.

We are now looking forward to some great events over the forthcoming weeks.
