Cookham Dig | Update

Dear Liz,

We have added new material to our website which we hope you will find interesting and have news of a reading by the Cookham Chronicler.

Early Medieval Flute

This rare find was uncovered during the 2024 dig. Coincidently, one of the volunteers digging that day was Lucy-Anne Taylor, an expert in Early Medieval instruments. Lucy-Anne has written about the flute for the website.

Digging the Bigger Picture | Art Symposium

During the 2025 dig, our Artist in Residence, Phyllida Shelley, hosted a two-day symposium on the topic of art and archaeology.
Videos of the talks and discussions can be found on the website's "Highlights" page. Click on the button below and scroll down to view.

The Cookham Chronicler | Silver Serpent

Silver Serpent
Finally, the Cookham Chronicler David Gilbert will be reading from his book "The Cookham Chronicles, Silver Serpent" this Wednesday 29th October, at Cookham Library. Just turn up at 3:00 p.m.
These stories are perfect for children ages 4 to 14 and are packed with Halloween mystery and suspense as well as plenty of history and some strange toothless ghosts. It should be lots of fun so please just come along and hear some spooky Halloween tales.
Thank you...
The Friends of Cookham Abbey team.
